How well do you know your Swiss geography?

Can you guess the number of lakes we have in Switzerland?
Maybe you have heard of Lake Geneva, the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe* (around 40% of the 580 km2 are French territory).

But the largest lake that is entirely located on Swiss territory is the 218 km2 Lake Neuchâtel.
This lake is primarily situated in Romandy (the French-speaking part in the west of Switzerland).

There are about 1,500 lakes all over the Swiss territory

Although Switzerland is a rather small country, it contains roughly 6% of Europe’s freshwater reserves.
It is also called the “Water Tower of Europe”.
As an eco-friendly country, we put all this water to good use. 2/3 of Swiss energy is generated from renewable sources. 57% of our electricity comes from hydropower alone.

Eco-friendly energy

In 2020, Switzerland ranked third in the Environmental Performance Index of Yale University, behind Denmark and Luxembourg.
This index is released every two years and ranks 180 countries based on 32 factors regarding environmental health & ecosystem vitality.

Smart homes can be more eco-friendly

And thanks to trends like the development of smart home technologies and energy-efficient homes, we can further reduce energy consumption at home and in buildings.
It’s not just about the convenience and comfort you get when you connect your different devices or improve your security system. Intelligent thermostats and (motion) sensors can, for example, monitor and control individual room temperatures, lighting, and motorized blinds.

EKKO-MEISTER high-quality custom bearings and stamping parts also contribute to this eco-friendly way of life. Used in applications for clean air, they are also a great fit for precise movements such as in home automation.
